Homemade bug killer

Do you have some bugs you don’t want?  or do you want to prevent them?

I learned from a co-worker about a recipe that will kill roaches and swears by it.

You will need:

¼ cup shortening (solid form) or bacon drippings

1/8 cup sugar

8 ounces powdered boric acid

1/8 cup flour

½ small onion, chopped (optional)

Enough water to form a soft dough

Put the shortening and sugar in a bowl and mix well. Mix the boric acid, flour and chopped onion (optional) together and add to the sugar/shortening mixture. Mix well and add just enough water to form a soft dough.

Form into small balls and put in small, cheap sandwich bags (do not close). Put the bait bags throughout your house where roaches tend to hang out. Putting the roach bait in the opened plastic bags keeps it from drying out too quickly.

As the roach bait becomes hard, replace with a fresh batch. And remember to keep the mixture out of the reach of children and pets.

I did a search and found this recipe online so I would like to give them credit.. http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/features/96/06/28/heloise.html

How about Fruit flies and gnats.  They are so annoying and I seem to get an infestation every late summer when it gets cool enough to start opening the windows.  My mother told me to take:

1C apple cider vinegar

1tsp sugar

1tsp dishsoap

put all 3 into a cup without making any bubbles then make a paper cone and put it over the mixture.  The mixture attracts them and the cone keeps them from being able to escape as fast if at all.  It works, I’ve tried it….

I got lazy though and just put some apple cider vinegar into the cup with the cone over the top and it worked too!  So you will be able to rid your home of the pesky fruitfiles in no time.

How about those pesky Japanese Beetles?  A very simple solution is to take some plastic cups and put some of your dishwater into them and put the cups in the window sills up out of the reach of children.  The beetles seem to be attracted to it and it gets rid of them very quickly.
